Meet the Team
Romney is from London but discovered Maldives in 1996. She immediately felt a close attraction for this wonderful simple place with such a closeness to nature. Her love of diving started here and grew over the years to a true addiction, so much so that she decided to leave her job in retail marketing to build a hotel designed specifically for divers.
Her skills in shop-fit design and marketing have being used in the design of the hotel and also in the website and ongoing marketing of the concept of our all inclusive diving experience. She previously was Marketing Director at BHS and F&F at Tesco UK.
Originally from Dhigurah Afzal has been part of BB family since 2015. Afzal has spent nearly 30 years of his professional career in the travel industry working in 5* resorts in Maldives such as Mirihi, Lux Maldives, Kihaad Maldives and Diva.
His skills in Hotel operations, especially revenue, reservations and guest relations have been a key asset to the hotel since opening. He is a diver too and loves his local sports such as volleyball and wake boarding. He loves to travel both for business and leisure.
Originally from Dhigurah Ibrahim worked at Ari Beach – Euro Divers where he met Romney, together they built Boutique Beach in 2014/15
Boat Captain, with over 30 years experience spotting whale sharks and mantas. Ibrahim knows where all the reefs are, in particular he reads the currents just right to drop divers in the perfect place to arrive safely at the thilas without a stressful descent.
Originally from Denmark, Mette has been part of BB family since 2017.
Experience gained teaching and diving off Tanzania, Vietnam and Maldives.
Fluent Danish and English with basic German.
Dive Base Leader from 2017 to 2021 moving to focus on social media and creating daily videos for our guests and YouTube channel.
Keen photographer – loves the ocean – to dive and travel the world.
Originally from South Africa, Jax began his diving journey along the country’s rugged and vibrant coastline. With over seven years of experience in the dive industry, he has taught in both South Africa and the Philippines, sharing his passion for the underwater world with divers of all levels. Jax has a particular fascination with nudibranchs and enjoys the challenge of spotting the smallest and most elusive reef creatures. When he’s not underwater, you’ll likely find him sketching or practicing yoga, always seeking balance both above and below the surface.<
Spanish diving instructor with over 10 years of experience in various international destinations, such as the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean. Passionate about the ocean and teaching, he has trained hundreds of divers of all levels, always with a focus on safety, personalized learning, and respect for the marine environment.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Shanti has been part of BB family since 2019. With 28 years experience in the hospitality sector.
His valuable knowledge gained in Maldivian 4/5* resorts and also boutique hotels based at home in Sri Lanka set him apart from other chefs working in the new hotels on local islands in Maldives.
We are REALLY happy with his wonderful cooking selection, fantastic guest care and kitchen hygiene! His passionfruit cheesecake is legendary and his preparation of freshly caught fish has converted even the most sceptical.
His menu covers world wide cuisine. He is particularly interested to learn individual requirements and is happy to adjust menus to cater for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and other tastes. Guest feedback has been marvellous and many cant wait to return to sample his most famous recipes.
Originally from Sri Lanka Amith has been part of BB family since 2019, after a strong recommendation from Shanthi. Amith also worked in a boutique hotel in Sri Lanka and is learning many valuable lessons.
His main role is to support Shanthi with food preparation and he also excels in keeping our kitchen and equipment cleaned with precision!
Isuru is originally from Sri Lanka, Isuru has been part of BB family since 2017.
He has completed his CIMA Management Level and was assistant accountant at Jetwing hotel group in Sri Lanka before coming to the Maldives.
Isuru is responsible for keeping accurate accounts and preparing tax documents. Maldivian tax rules keep him on his toes! His dry humour and love of good food have made him a legend in his own lifetime!
Originally from Bangladesh Saeed, has been part of BB family since the opening in 2015.
Famous for his smiling face and looking after our guests, he is always available for a chat and making sure your restaurant experience is as perfect as it’s possible to be. He is well-known for his special occasion table decoration.
Originally from Bangladesh, Kawshar has been part of BB family since 2016. He ensures guest arrivals and departures happen on time and smoothly.
He makes sure that any issues with hotel maintenance are dealt with promptly and his skills in electrical works have been growing. His lights for beach dinners and Christmas are legendary!
Originally from Bangladesh, James has been part of BB family since 2018. He ensures guest rooms are prepared with precision and cleanliness. His bed decorations are spectacular!
Originally from Dhigurah, Shahid and has been part of BB family since 2018. Experienced dive boat captain previously working for Euro Divers.
He has spent the last 25+ years navigating the waters in this area. Excellent at spotting whale sharks, mantas and reading the current and dropping divers at the perfect place.
Originally from Bangladesh, Shohag has been part of BB family since 2020. Bringer of the good vibes and whale shark dances.
Great with assisting guests getting in and out the water, providing tea & coffee and helping wherever he can. Great at spotting whale sharks too.
